Aloha Japan!
Hi everyone! I hope you are having a wonderful 2009. It was a crazy holiday season and I am glad to have some American Idol time now that the holidays are over. My nephew came from Orlando for 2 weeks, he is now about 2 1/2 years old. I wish he lived closer... While we were at Ala Moana Shopping Center there were lots of girls from Japan taking pictures with him! He was loving it! I'll look for pictures of my niece on the next post. Have a GREAT 2009! Ana

Happy New Year!!!
Aloha Na Maka Japan! All my best wishes for you in the New Year! New Year's Eve is very noisy in Hawaii. Everyone is popping fireworks especially at midnight to ring in the New Year. We spent a quiet evening at home with our 100 pound puppy. He was very scared of the noise. We made sure to pop our own fireworks at midnight. We bought the paperless fireworks so there is not much rubbish to clean up afterwards. On New Year's Day, we went to my mother-in-law's house for mochi soup (ozoni?). Happy New Year 2009!
Hau`oli makahiki hou ! Na-Maka Ohana ! May the New Year turn out to be the happiest and the best for you. I explain Japanese New Year holidays to Na-Maka Ohana New year's Day is considered to be the most important annual event in Japan. We exchange New Year's cards called nengajo on New Year's Days. Some go to Shinto Shrines in our best dresses to pray for good luck and happiness for the year.We visit our relatives and friends to exchange New Year's greetings. Children are given a gift of money called otoshidama. People relax by flying kites or playing cards. We make our resolutions for the year on New Year's Day. This is a New Year of Japan.
